Keeping Track of Manure Nutrients in Dairy Pastures

Designed to help dairy owners determine manure application rates and forage consumption. Describes how to: (1) estimate manure generated by animals and the confinement facility; (2) measure grass consumed by animals using clip and weigh, yardstick, rising plate meter, and capacitance meter methods; (3) determine nitrogen (N) content of grass; and (4) use these calculations to ascertain net N balance. Includes a sample record-keeping system, and estimates for daily N and P (phosphorus) excretion based on milk production and pounds of N removed per pounds of dry matter.
