Recruiting and Supporting Latino Volunteers

This publication is designed to help recruiters better understand the characteristics of the Latino community that affect volunteering. It provides strategies for successfully recruiting and supporting Latino volunteers. Topics include understanding how Latinos view volunteering, connecting with the Latino community, choosing outreach staff, identifying potential volunteers, inviting volunteers to participate, supporting volunteers' involvement, and recognizing volunteers' contributions. Based on data collected on Latinos of Mexican origin who are relative newcomers or second generation--characteristics shared by most of Oregon's Latinos.
