This publication gives a concise description of the causes, symptoms, and disease cycle of pear scab. It also describes the OSU-MCAREC three-part model to predict scab risk and help time fungicide sprays. Integrating nonchemical methods and fungicide applications optimized with the OSU-MCAREC model can result in production of high-quality pears with reduced production costs, and multiple benefits from lower pesticide use, such as lower risk of resistance development, reduced environmental loading of pesticides, and reduced pesticide exposure.
